Workplace issues & relations

When a workplace issue is difficult, sensitive or unclear, experienced judgement matters.

Something may clearly need addressing — or you may simply know that a situation is becoming harder to manage.

Nexus provides senior, practical support with performance, behaviour, complaints, investigations, conflict and other workplace matters, helping organisations understand what they are dealing with and work out the right next step.

What Nexus can help with

Experienced support when a workplace issue needs careful judgement.

You do not need to know whether the issue is performance, conduct, conflict, a complaint or something else before getting advice. The first task is to understand what is actually happening and what response makes sense.

Managing performance

Help where an employee is not meeting expectations — including clarifying concerns, preparing managers, feedback, documentation, performance improvement, warnings and deciding when a more formal process may be required.

Conduct & workplace behaviour

Support when behaviour is inappropriate, disruptive, disrespectful or undermining workplace standards — including grey areas such as dismissive conduct, repeated incivility, undermining, inappropriate comments, exclusion or hostility.

Complaints, grievances & conflict

Help assess what has been raised and determine an appropriate response — whether that involves clarification, management action, informal resolution, formal process, investigation or another approach.

Workplace investigations

Independent or supported investigations where a formal fact-finding process is appropriate — including scoping, interviews, evidence review, findings and practical next steps.

Workplace relations & industrial matters

Support with consultation, disputes, employment instruments, workforce matters and other workplace-relations issues.

Health, absence & capacity

Support where attendance, illness, injury, capacity, role requirements or return-to-work issues intersect with employment obligations and operational needs.

Senior HR support

Experienced extra support for difficult cases, significant workforce activity, change, sensitive matters or periods when an internal HR team needs additional senior help.

The right response depends on the issue

Not every difficult workplace issue needs the same process.

A complaint does not automatically require an investigation. A performance concern does not always need a formal performance plan. And behaviour does not need to fit neatly within a bullying or serious misconduct label before a leader can address workplace standards.

Nexus helps organisations consider the facts, obligations, risks and context, then work out a response that is fair, practical and matches what is needed.

Workplace relations is rarely just about following a checklist. Nexus combines senior HR and workplace relations experience with practical judgement and fair process; where specialist legal or other advice is required, that should be identified early and kept distinct.

The response should follow the facts — not the other way around.

Support for leaders and internal teams

Deal with the issue now. Make the next step clearer.

Nexus can work alongside leaders and internal HR teams rather than simply taking a matter away.

That may include preparing managers for conversations, working through the process with them, developing practical scripts or tools, documenting expectations and handing over clearer approaches for future matters.

Where useful, the work should also make it easier for leaders or the internal team to manage what comes next.
